Your True Country Pub

As you pull into Methven Mt Hutt Village and stand at the cross roads of the two main streets (one fittingly named Main Street!) you’ll see two pubs on opposite corners. One of them is Blue, one of them is Brown. Ours is the Brown one.

The catch phrase “your true country pub” is very apt as this is indeed a classic New Zealand country pub. Warm in atmosphere and welcome, you will feel right at home from the minute you walk in the door.

Our Fireside Bar and Family Restaurant has a fabulous menu complete with some delicious new items and the classic favourites we know you love! Our accommodation recently had a facelift including carpet, paint and bedding.

The Brown Pub, finalist in New Zealand’s Best Country Hotel at the 2016 HANZ Awards for Excellence, is located right in the middle of town and offers the Main Bar, the Fireside Bar, a family restaurant,  fresh, clean affordable accommodation, the Methven Liquor Centre and naturally a great time. We are also very proud to be awarded the Lion Breweries Beer Master award for demonstrating excellence in beer quality and presentation – ten years running. So you know the beer is going to be good.

It also helps that we live in New Zealand’s best little country town. Methven is a dynamic mix of generations old farms and up and coming real estate. It’s a lively ski town in the winter bringing with it a huge influx of travellers both international and domestic, who are all up for a good time. In the summer it’s a peaceful place to stop on a sightseeing tour and relax amongst some of the regions most beautiful scenery. Its also home to some of the kindest, most generous people you will ever meet. Methven is still very much a community, we love it here and hope you will too.

Town and Ski Field info further below.

Farmers and Travelers looking to use the higher passes over Queens Birthday Weekend. 31st May - 4th June. This warning covers McKenzie Basin to North Canterbury at this stage.

Overnight Friday could see snowfalls upwards of 20-30cm. Clearing later Saturday before another system on Monday with a potential to see another 10-15cm above 600m again.

In addition to the snow warning there is strong NW wind advisory in force along the plains. Exposed Gusts between Monday and Friday could exceed 100kph at times.

This is current Weather Data Available as of 8.05pm Sunday 26th May.

As elluded to by Josh and Myself we have a major shift in our weather patterns over Queens Birthday.

The biggest benefactors will be the Canterbury Ski Fields and not before time.

Most fields have little to nothing on the ground but in 10days time they could be sitting between 30-80cm depending on where most of the moisture falls.

Mt Hutt, Mt Dobson could see some of the biggest falls. The early season falls have failed to materialize which is not what was expected.

As Josh eluded to the 2 main models as well as some others are now moving into more alignment and in the last hour with updates coming through the snow level overnight Friday looks good for snow to around 350m.

These models are being fairly consistent at the moment and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Towns that are on the edge for some snow are Methven, Springfield, Hanmer Springs, Lake Coleridge, Fairlie or towns above 400m.

Towns that are likely to see larger snow amounts are Castlehill, Tekapo or Towns above 600m and these are also covered under our Warning.

This is an evolving situation and Josh and I are constantly reviewing.

Stay tuned for further updates. Have a good night.

Brown Pub Methven

PWL Methven Seniors 50th Game!

Tyler joined the Methven senior ranks in 2016, and quickly became an important member of the struggling side!
His versatility meant he spent most of his first season away from his favoured number 9 jersey, playing just about every other position in the backline.
Tyler sets a very high standards for himself, coupled with his competitiveness and toughness and has become a real leader within the team over the 4 seasons he has played.
A real team man, on and off the field, he often enjoys a beer or two!! He’s a pleasure to play with and an asset, we just hope this doesn’t go to his head!!

Congratulations on 50 senior caps mate, see if you can get to 269 like your idol Davey Maw!!

Best of luck playing against Kaiapoi this weekend! Up the Mallards!!
