If you want to meet the real locals or fancy yourself a bit of a sports fan, why not head for the Main Bar. With all you’d expect from a true New Zealand pub bar, you’ll find TAB, Sky TV, jackpot gaming machines, jukebox and a sports tipping competition.

With 11 TV screens and 3 Sky decoders, you’ll never miss your favourite big game or race in the Main Bar and there are lots of great viewing spots at the tables and macrocarpa leaners. Whether you follow the horses, the greyhounds, or any sport under the sun, with the only TAB in Methven we’ll be able to help you out with our self service and manned terminals. Feel free to ask the clever chap behind the bar for a sneaky tip.

There’s always something going on in the bar – Friday night karaoke with “Brown Rage” is a regular feature, we organise lots of themed dress up party nights, and The Brown will also host the annual sheep shearing competition (they just feed the sheep in and out through the windows…)

The most entertaining nights can be the ones that just develop naturally. When everyone’s in a “shake that money maker” mood and we find ourselves moving the tables and pumping up the jukebox to dance up a storm.

The Mac’s Backyard Craft Bar has a toasty warm log burner if you fancy a meal by the fire.  It’s also a nice sunny spot for lunch – check out our Lunch Menu.  If the Main Bar is rocking along, and you just fancy your own space or somewhere a little quieter, it’s worth checking out this space with its extensive range of Mac’s Craft Beers on tap along with a wide selection of wines, spirits and non alcoholic beverages to choose from.

Don’t fancy a big entrance into the Main Bar? The side entrance to the Brown (on Main Street) brings you straight into the space between the Mac’s Craft Bar and the restaurant so you can take some time to absorb the atmosphere and decide which bar works for you. If food is part of the plan, you can take a seat in the Restaurant or keep it casual and choose a spot in the bar and order from our tasty menu.

Need some fresh air? You can move out into the sheltered Beer Garden which adjoins the restaurant. This outdoor area is the perfect place for families with a sandpit and toys for the kids and is well fenced for peace of mind. You can even dine in the restaurant and keep an eye on your kids while they play. Don’t forget to check out our specials page for the Kids 4 Free deals!
