Methven is a small friendly town with many businesses owner operated. This means you are likely to find yourself chatting to someone who really cares about your experience and who will most likely have lots of helpful suggestions. Everything in Methven is in within walking distance so why not take a wander around town and check out some of the shops.

From outdoor equipment and homeware to local souvenirs Methven has a great range of shops. For a small rural town we have an impressive list of services including a bank, medical centre, pharmacy, petrol station & mechanics, gym, health & beauty, and real estate shops, along with some great local arts and crafts shops, a fantastic art gallery showcasing some of the many talented local artists and the local cinema. In winter, there are also 2 ski and snowboard shops who change identities to become the local bike shop and a watersports shop in the summer months.

Another option for the whole family is the purpose-built NZ Alpine & Agriculture Encounter which brings to life the stories of the mountains, plains and the people who live there, through a modern, multi-media/interactive approach which provides visitors opportunities to explore the information and experiences that engage them the most. From the experience of being in a combine harvester to exploring a snow cave, the Encounter is a new must see visitor attraction in Canterbury.

When it comes to food, you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice with the array of cafes, bakeries and restaurants in Methven. It’s not a problem to find an excellent coffee in our town, the hardest decision is which cafe to choose.

If relaxing is your thing, there is a salt room, sauna, hot pools, massage therapy, hot stone massage, outdoor garden spa pools, beauty therapy and hairdressers all ready and waiting to pamper you.
